Retired headmaster B.V. Pradhan (Anupam Kher) refuses to come to terms with the murder of his young son in New York. Desperately seeking answers, Pradhan and his wife contemplate life alone without any income or family support until they meet a young actress (Razdan) who asks to move into their house. Saarnash catapulted actor Anupam Kher onto the world stage and in the process bagged him the Best Actor award at the Filmfare Awards (India’s Oscar equivalent) in Mumbai. It was also the first Indian film to win the Special Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival the same year.
